Is Psychotherapy for Me?

People come to therapy for many reasons. Sometimes we feel lost or disconnected from others and ourselves. There could be a vague or a strong feeling that we are not okay as we are and want to live a more fulfilling life.

Perhaps there was a recent crisis, such as the death of a love one, divorce, and we need to process the loss in a safe place. Sometimes we have interpersonal problems at home or at work or in both places that interfere with our well-being.

The wounds may come from childhood and are deep and painful. Many of us grew up in homes with emotional ill parents who did not have the tools to deal with everyday stresses and handled their emotions by abusing alcohol or/and drugs. It is possible to have experienced physical, verbal, emotional, and sexual abuse by those the person loved and trusted and also by strangers.

Sometimes, there are feelings of being stuck or unable to move forward. The person knows what he or she wants and has difficulty making it happen. Other times, the person knows he or she is unhappy and does not know which steps to take next.

Depression, anxiety, insomnia, and attention difficulties are some of the symptoms experienced when life is unbalanced.

Psychotherapy works best when the individual is willing to take the risk to look deeply and honestly and take the necessary action to live a more fulfilling life. Self-responsibility is a must for the process to unfold. In my work I use different psychotherapeutic approaches such as Object Relations, Gestalt, Family Systems, Cognitive-Behavioral, EMDR, and Expressive Arts to name a few. Together we give a voice to your true self so you can live the life you were born to live.
